Within the framework of the BioSos CENIT project we offer a Postdoctoral Position to work in the field of biomass gasification. The work will be mainly carried out at the research center MATGAS, in a unique environment where the efforts of the three MATGAS partners, the private company Carburos Metalicos (Air Products Group), the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), and the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), work together to contribute in a field of increasing interest and high relevance for the future. The candidate will be working on computational fluid dynamics (CFD) in combination with experimental data measured in our laboratory and other facilities. The candidate will be also collaborating with some other research centers and companies in an open, innovative environment, within the framework of the project. The candidates should hold a PhD degree in Chemical Engineering, Physics, Material Engineering, or related subjects and experience on Computational Fluids Dynamics longer than 3 years.
WORK DESCRIPTION Spain and the European Union show a great dependence on petroleum to obtain fuels and chemicals. Considering that oil reservoirs will have a limited life, and also the environmental impact they have (including emission of greenhouse gases and production of solid waste), new sustainable sources for fuels and chemicals that could close the carbon cycle are needed. Biomass has being used as energy and materials resources since early ages, and it shows a great potential to create biofuels, produce electricity, obtain polymers (like lactic and glycolic acid or Chitosan) and Syngas (one of the basis of chemistry), among others. "BioSos" (the title of the project) is a word composed by "Biorefinery" and "Sustainable", hence, the aim of the project is to develop new technologies of low environmental impact to convert biomass into fuels and chemicals. The candidate will carry on CFD simulations in order to understand and get additional insides on how the gasification of biomass takes place into a reactor and the effect of the different variables (temperature, oxygen content, carbon monoxide and hydrogen profiles) on the performance of the process. Potential candidates should send a letter of intend, a CV and at least the name of three references, to Dr. Lourdes F. Vega Director MATGAS 2000 AIE Campus de la UAB E-08193 Bellaterra
