Welcome from Dr. Lourdes F. Vega,
Welcome to our web page! Here you will find information about us, our partners, our activities, our laboratories, our team and our projects. Before you visit whatever you have interest on, let me introduce you to our institution, our goals and our objectives.
MATGAS 2000 AIE, known as MATGAS, is a non-profit organization, born as a joint venture among Carburos Metálicos- Air Products Group, the National Research Council of Spain (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas-CSIC) and the Autonomous University of Barcelona (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona-UAB). This strong consortium of a private company, a Research Institution and a University, brings together a complementary and rich expertise in different areas and approaches. MATGAS was created to advance in the research and development of MATerials and GASes, for different applications. The synergy of a profound understanding of the market, together with the research and teaching capabilities of its three members makes it a unique consortium, able to accomplish goals well above the individual goals of each of them.
The ambition of MATGAS, as stated in our strategic plan, is to become a center of reference for CO2 capture and applications as well as sustainable energies, combining in a synergetic manner modeling with experiments. As the demand for energy is expected to grow, clear steps should be taken towards reducing the emission of CO2 (and other green house gases), as well as technologies to efficiently capture it, transport it and use it in an environmentally safe manner. MATGAS, as a center of excellence in CO2, is working at the different stages of this process, from capture, transport and storage, up to its numerous applications in the market, ranging from fundamental knowledge to new technologies for the market. The modeling-experimental approach helps in creating a better understanding of the process and the best optimization of the final processes and applications. We develop projects in this area in collaboration with national and international research institutions and leading companies. We believe in collaborations as part of a creative, disruptive atmosphere for developing new science and technology.
Complementary to our research focus, attention has been paid to serve our partners. Researchers from either one of the three institutions can run projects in MATGAS, using the available laboratories and other facilities. MATGAS provides an open framework and environment for creative discussions and advance of research in close contact with the industrial world. Students also benefit from this approach, developing long term projects or short stays with us.
MATGAS, in summary, has been created with a clear mission and tailored for excellence in specific areas of research. It is our compromise to contribute to the high-level formation of the best professionals, both in industry and academia, to contribute to a last generation technology, developed to construct and to work for a safe environment, and to the society in general.
